This album had a harder sound than previous albums, almost as if Phil Lynott wanted to prove that Thin Lizzy still had the chops to rock out. John Sykes's playing injected a lot of energy into the old warhorse. This album saw the inclusion of guitarist John Sykes who played alongside stalwart Scott Gorham. I am of the opinion their best albums were all recorded in the 70's but their last album, the 3rd released in the 80's was a return to form. Thunder & Lightning was Thin Lizzy's 12th album and sadly their final studio album, released in 1983. The most famous and most known line-up was during the '74 - '78 period with Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson on lead guitar.Ĭurrently John Sykes & Scott Gorham are touring with their own band under the name of Thin Lizzy, but this is not always appreciated by the old fans. Keyboard players were Eric Wrixton (only first recordings of Lizzy) and Darren Wharton (from Renegade till the end). He passed away in 1986.ĭuring the whole Lizzy existence, they had several guitar players: Eric Bell, Scott Gorham, Brian Robertson, Gary Moore, John Sykes, Snowy White, John Cann, Andy Gee & Midge Ure.ĭrummer Mark Nauseef replaced Brian Downey on a few gigs. Philip Lynott (vocals & bass guitar) was one of the founding members and frontman of the group. The band was disbanded on September 4th 1983.
